Coming from famous Czech director Jan Svěrák who also directed the film Kolya, comes Dark Blue World (2001). This is a historic action movie about a group of fighter pilots training to fight for their country which has been invaded by the Nazis in 1939. The plot follows two pilots in particular (Ondrej Vetchý and Krystof Hádekwho) who leave their home town to go to the United Kingdom to join the RAF.
Though they are already good pilots, the British requires them to retrain, learning the ins and outs of being a fighter pilot. They struggle learning the language, but end up forming unforgettable bonds with the other pilots who later become friends as well as civilians who become lovers.
The movie has both tragic and funny aspects, but in the end it is a moving story that has romance, action, suspense and true friendship, as for the rest, you’ll just have to watch to find out…
