Today we are looking at the Autographed Portraits of Czech Photographer Jiří Jiroutek.
Jiří Jiroutek was born on March 21, 1967, in Louny. He is a contemporary Czech photographer currently residing in Liberec. He studied at the Institute of Creative Photography at the Silesian University in Opava (1994).
He has been living and working as a freelance artist since 1991, holding a QEP (Qualified European Photographer).
He often works with artists, he focuses on architecture and portrait photography.
Osobnosti české kulturní scény (The personality of the Czech cultural scene) is an ongoing project which was started in 1995.
The photos shown here are from a series of black-and-white portrait photographs in which the author gives insight into the world of prominent personalities of our time – artists, painters, graphic artists, architects and art glass artists, in the natural context of their studios and in natural light. These photographs have been created over a long time horizon (more than 20 years), and so often they come close to personalities that are no longer among us.
The portraits were photographed classically, with a 6×6 format camera, for a film with 12 pictures and were presented at exhibitions in the Czech Republic and Europe.
You can see more from the series if you click this link.
He has exhibited at home and in Europe as well as the United States at many exhibitions.
“Jiří Jiroutka’s photography cycle brings us closer to the artists’ intense feeling. It should be noted beforehand that the author here portrays much more than their mere form. In the natural context of their studios and in the natural light in which they create their own works, Jiří Jiroutek seemed to try to portray the space of their thoughts and inner contents. Here, as if it were a return to the core of each artist, the nucleus from which the creative inspiration and the resulting artistic artifacts or performances originate. This pre-entry into the intimate sphere of the artist’s world is closed to almost everyone except family members or a handful of curators, so these photos are more valuable. We are witnesses of the momentary moments when all the psychic and visual elements are clustered, and the whole human story emerges before us, inconspicuously summed up by a single shot.” – Richad Drury, March 2007.
