Sometimes the best way to relax is to sit back with friends around a flickering campfire, pull out the instruments, and write a tune… That is exactly how the Czech country band KTO started. Kamarádi Táborových Ohňů (KTO) seriously translates to Friends of Campfires.
Today we are sharing a few of their hits from the various time periods of their musical career.
KTO plays Czech tramp music, and in these songs you’ll usually find lyrics about the wild west, women, and enjoying life in general. The music features classic instruments like banjo, bass, guitar, and sometimes violin which combine to create a perfect backdrop to their great voices. And did you know that they were the preferred back up of one of Czech Republics most loved voices, Waldemar Matuska.
We were lucky because we got to see them when we were in Prague. We even got to sit at their VIP table since my grandparents have been friends with them for many years. It was an awesome evening!
Their music makes for awesome listening at parties, on road trips, and yes, when camping (or tramping)! It’s music that lifts the spirit, and if you know how to speak Czech and listen to the lyrics closely, you will find the way they describe simple things like a flowing river or riding a horse, quite beautiful.
Today their music is still played by all generations in pubs and in groups of friends and family. In fact, if you’re in Prague – you can still see them play occasional shows around the city.
Here is the link to their Facebook page where they post show information.
You can also watch some footage from our evening spent at their show at Hudebni klub Palmovka, previously known as Rikatado. We had a blast! (More information on the video located in the video description.)
Enjoy and if you happen to see them live, tell them we said “Hello”!
