Today we came across a lovely vintage Czech porcelain luncheon set for sale on eBay. It looks to be a fantastic pearlescent luncheon set which includes a tea pot with lid, creamer, sugar bowl with lid and 4 tea cups with saucers. Also included are 4 salad or dessert plates.
The set comes from an estate and is entirely crafted of fine Czech quality porcelain.

The pieces are stamped on the bottom, MZ Altrohlau CMR Czechoslovakia
Altrohlau products have been in existence since 1810. They are from the Czech Republic. Altrohlau existed as a faience and stoneware pottery founded by Benedikt Hassler in 1810. The name Altrohlau came from the Austrian town which was located in present day Stará Role near Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.
In 1823 the factory was acquired by August Novotny & Co. and after 1836 the factory started making porcelain. In 1884, the company was sold in auction to Moritz Zdekauer from Prague.
The Marks “MZ Altrohlau CMR Czechoslovakia” is for Starorolský Porcelán Moritz Zdekauer. They date to be circa from the late 1800’s up until the mid 1900’s. This specific mark dates this specific set to sometime between 1918-1939.
They look to be in very nice vintage condition and I do not see any chips, breaks, cracks or repairs except the damage to the lid of the sugar bowl, which is such a shame but could be repaired. A greater shame would be not to preserve this lovely set!
If you collect pieces such as this, it’s a set we’ve rarely seen and it’s really lovely!
