Browsing the internet I came across something I found very interesting. Did you know that the Prague 1 Municipality offers a free gala for senior residents?
It does.
The public service announcement on the culture page of Prague 1 begins with the words “Dear Neighbors…” and continues in the form of a formal invitation:
“Please allow me to cordially invite you to the Seniors Ball Prague 1, which the Municipality of Prague 1 has organized for the evening of March 6th from 5 pm at the Žofín Palace.
Henry Váchy orchestra will provide a special music program for your dancing and listening pleasure. Performers will include Karel Blaha, George Štědroň and Eva Pilarová during an evening of excellent music sure to please the rebels of old time rock’n’roll. So come on to Žofín and take the opportunity to meet your favorite stars, but also sit and visit with friends and neighbors, therefore, with those who – like you – they live in our beautiful part of the city.
A complementary meal will be served for the evening.
If you decide to accept our invitation, just come to the Information Office of Prague 1 located at Vodickova 18, where you will receive your free ticket.
Tickets will be available only for the citizens of Prague 1, and will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis after February 7. They will be available until the capacity of the 900 seat hall is filled.
I look forward to our meeting.
Mayor of Prague 1, Ing. Oldrich Lomecký”
Wow!
Did you ever hear of such a thing?
The Senior’s Ball, a free event put on by the city of Praha 1 for up to 900 seniors. Fully catered, fine entertainment, music and dancing and all free, to honor the elderly residents of the city.
I’d like to see something like that go on here in the states!
The images below are from the Senior’s Ball of 2015 and we found the photos at Pravá Praha’s Facebook Page. The theme that year was Elvis and Rock and Roll.
The videos which follow the images are from the Senior’s Ball of 2016 and we’re sure you’ll enjoy watching all three (almost as good as being there)!
It was as though the stars themselves were lining up and the only thing missing was the red carpet…
The tables were set and the rooms were made ready for the very special guests…
What a wonderful evening of music and dancing…
We love to see that such a festive gala is organized to honor the city’s oldest residents, and that they make the event free only makes it that much better.
In 2015, they even got Elvis to make an appearance which is not something you see in the Czech Republic every day!
What an amazing evening and a great way to thank the city’s oldest residents, just for being!
You can live vicariously and enjoy the evening via film through the three clips below.
Bravo!
