Boating isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when most people think of Prague. It is however, a fun activity to enjoy if you ever do visit. The Vltava River is one of the most famous rivers in all of Europe and it runs directly through the capital city, Prague.
When we visited Prague in was the middle of winter and we didn’t even think about going boating on the river but we did see quite a few people doing just that.
You can rent paddle boats and rowing boats at numerous vendors around the river. They have boats that look like swans (check out our posts about Czech swans here) or just regular paddle boats.
It is a fun activity for families as well as a romantic adventure for couples. Sitting out in the nice fresh air you can smell trdelníks cooking as you float by all of the old Czech architecture, streets, history, and of course, the beautiful Prague castle which seems to be ever looming as you drift along.
Besides paddle boats made for two, you can join a crowd and enjoy riverboats, jazz boats, tour boats, and even dinner boats you can go on if you wish to share your Prague boating experience with others.
When we stayed in Prague our apartment was just steps away from the river and a funky jazz boat I wish we would have gotten the chance to go out on. So if you are ever in Prague, no matter what the season, make room in your schedule to go boating!
