Dear Exile by Hilary Liftin and Kate Montgomery is, as it states on the cover, a true story of two friends separated (for a year) by an ocean. This book is a fast and easy read, one perfect for a long train ride, or a relaxing day by the pool.
The book is made up of real letters between two women leading very different lives. Hilary and Kate are old friends from college trying to figure out life.
Hilary’s letters are filled with her New York City life. She works an office job, has family drama, and many romances with various men. Hilary’s letters share stories of the struggles of finding a job, apartment, and creating a life.
Kate on the other hand has chosen to be a part of the Peace Corps and her letters come from Africa where she shares stories of her husband and her crazy life teaching, traveling, and trying to survive as an American in Africa.
Despite their differences, these two women seem to be the perfect match. With plenty of humor and puns, the pages in this book are lined with life lessons, and joy. Though the ending is a bit sad, it really ties together the entire story. A beautiful read that I enjoyed and I believe you will too. Get your copy here.
