When we think of shopping, especially when we are thinking of furnishing a dorm room or our first apartment, stereotypes (and advertising execs) have taught us to think of walking through the maze at super-sized Ikea. But today, I stumbled upon some images of over 60 years ago that show Scandinavian (or Nordic) style and design being billed as “American Form”. I tried to dig deeper and fell into the rabbit hole spending much too long on this and ended up finding nothing more than my original lead, these object photos of various kitchen, dining and typical dorm dining.
These come from The Society for Applied Art who, with the assistance of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, put on an exhibit at a place called Artist House on January 16, 1954.
Many of the designs were so good, they are still around today!
Interesting concepts for fabricating the modern dwelling, don’t you agree?
I have to say, not much has changed in the last 60 years.
