Jacques Brel was a Belgian singer and songwriter who initially gained a following in Belgium and France for his theatrical, poetic songs, later becoming known throughout the world.
Born in Brussels, he later moved to Paris in order to further his musical career. He is known for his thoughtful lyrics and passionate singing style. Many of his songs have been performed in English by performers such as Ray Charles, Nina Simone, and Frank Sinatra.
