Today we are sharing a super easy old Czech recipe for grated apples with carrots or strouhaná jablka s mrkví. This was my go-to after school snack when I was hungry. While my American friends were munching on Twinkies and Ding Dongs, I got this. I didn’t much like it as a child, but now am grateful for the healthiness of it, and recall it fondly with sweet memories.
You can eat grated apples with carrots as a power breakfast, serve it to your little ones as an afternoon snack, prepare it as a side dish/salad or have it as a dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 large carrots
- 2 large apples (peeled or not, your preference)
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- Lemon (optional, wedge to decorate, juice to flavor)
Directions
Wash the carrots and apples.
Grate them into a bowl. Mix with the sugar. If using lemon, add the lemon juice and mix well.
To serve, place in a dessert bowl and garnish with a slice of lemon.
A deliciously sweet and healthy pick-me up or dessert literally made in minutes. Sometimes I add some raisins, other times sliced almonds, and even chia seeds to give our grated apples with carrots that power or super food status. A fast and easy versatile food.
Dobrou Chut!
