Rudolf Kremlička (June 19, 1886 – June 3, 1932) was a Czech painter who belongs to the great personalities of Czech modern painting of the 20th century. He is most known for his full color paintings of women and the countryside but today we’re looking at a few of the simple line drawings which are from one of our books about the artist.
Rudolf Kremlička studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Hwas influenced by fellow Czech painters Antonín Slavíček and Hanuš Schwaiger. He visited Paris, where he was able to see the works of prominent impressionists (his model was Édouard Manet). He was also strongly influenced by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres.
In 1924, he published Malířské konfese (Painter’s Confession) in which he explained his approach to modern art, acts and landscapes. He died at age 45.
Rudolf Kremlička was one of the main members of Tvrdošíjní, a group of painters who formed around naivitist primitivism in their art. The group broke up after five exhibitions.
Initially, Rudolf Kremlička focused primarily in conjunction with landscape themes. His work has changed over time, but never really touched any artistic direction, except neoclassicism. By his own thought and synthesis he developed his own style.
He also often painted women which were more stylized and more specific.
These are some line drawings from Rudolf Kremlička.
We found an old article on Rudolf Kremlička in Rozpravy Aventina which is in Czech.
We have scanned it and are sharing it here for our Czech readers.
We would love it if someone would translate the piece and would email it to us at sayhi@tresbohemes.com.
At that point, with more information about the artist, we’ll gladly also share some of his lovely color paintings.
